This amazing looking scorpion is a FLAT ROCK SCORPION, which in the wild is found in Southern Africa. They have a very flattened body structure which allows them to hide in very small rock crevices, the entrance to which they then block with their large pincers!

As you can see from these pictures, this particular species of scorpion has an exceptionally thin metasoma (tail) which is an indication that it has particularly weak venom. In fact these scorpions are very reluctant to sting and would typically use their hiding ability or pincers for defence.
